The German goalkeeper entered into a conflict with the club after announcing through a press release that he was going to have surgery and would be out at least three months, while club management planned to use his medical leave of absence for up to 80 percent of his salary in order to sign new footballers on transfer deadline day, but under the condition that he would be sidelined for four months or longer. The club then opened a disciplinary procedure against the shot-stopper after he declined to put his signature on a medical report that the Catalans were set to present to La Liga howing had been examined.
